Matthew 25:37-40
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Comments
Jesus knew what it meant to be hungry. He fasted forty days in the desert and resisted the temptation to turn stones into bread. Later he had compassion on the hungry multitudes, providing bread and fish to 5,000 people at one time and 4,000 another time.
God has a history of feeding the hungry. Through Joseph’s management, God provided grain for the children of Israel, the nation of Egypt and much of the known world. In the desert, God provided manna and meat for the Israelites even when their lack of faith kept them from entering the Promised Land.
Reflections
Do you enjoy a good meal? Do you find joy in providing a good meal to friends and family? Do you find equal joy in providing a meal to hungry strangers?
How much do you know about the number of people around the world that suffer from malnutrition? How about in your own community?
If you came face to face today with someone who was hungry, would you be ready to put your love in action?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you have shown great concern for your hungry children. Help me do the same, revealing your image in me and discovering your image in them
